Fertility & Reproductive Health

Infertility assessment and treatment
Fertility evaluations – Comprehensive assessments for couples who have difficulty conceiving. Investigations may include hormone blood tests, semen analysis, ovulation tracking and imaging to check for anatomical issues.
Diagnostic Laparoscopy - A minimally invasive surgery that allows Dr Maphikana to examine the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes using a small camera inserted through tiny incisions in the abdomen. This procedure can help diagnose and sometimes treat conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic pain, fertility concerns, scar tissue (adhesions), and ovarian cysts.
Hysteroscopy – A minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera passed through the vagina and cervix into the womb. This allows Dr Maphikana to examine the lining of the uterus and identify conditions such as polyps, fibroids, abnormal bleeding, scar tissue, and fertility-related concerns. In some cases, treatment can be performed during the same procedure.
Chromopertubation (laparoscopy‑and‑dye test) – During a laparoscopy, a blue dye is gently injected through the cervix to check whether your fallopian tubes are open. If the dye flows freely into the pelvic cavity the tubes are open; if it doesn’t, a blockage may be present. This test helps determine whether blocked tubes are contributing to infertility.

Assisted reproductive procedures
Cervical cerclage – Described above, this can also be performed outside pregnancy in women with a history of late miscarriages.
Sterilisation and reversal – Permanent contraception by blocking the fallopian tubes. Reversal involves reconnecting the tubes to restore fertility; this can sometimes be successful when a woman later wishes to conceive.
